McCarthy and his firm McCarthy Creative Services as a client. McCarthy Creative Services, headquartered in New York City, is a full-range creative services and multi-media company, working worldwide with authors, agents, publishers, media and Internet companies. The services provided include creative editing and content development, from concept through final manuscript; collaboration with principal authors and co-authors; consultation on writing, publishing, and marketing books, and all other creative content; literary and film representation; program and seminar development and public speaking. Paul McCarthy is a member of the Authors Guild, American Society of Journalists and Authors, and National Book Critics Circle. His Books, Authors, and the Ideal Editor is the first-ever philosophy and theory of book editing, and he contributed the essay "Developmental Editing" to Editors on Editing, Third Edition. 


He is currently working as creative editor/co-author with two #1 New York Times bestselling writers of both nonfiction and fiction, including John Douglas, author of Mindhunter. He is co-author with Tokey Hill and Emil Farkas of World Champion Tokey Hill's Family Guide to the Martial Arts.
